Every Fall, Underwood Farms finishes 10-12 steers for sale. The beef is available from August-December, depending upon customer preferences.
The steers are born, weaned, and fed on our farms. They do not receive hormone supplements or anti-biotics. Most of our steers are finished on pasture land with increasing supplements of corn until processing. They are not confined to feed pens. Steers are processed at Blue Ridge Meats of Front Royal or Fauquier's Finest in Bealton, VA, depending upon the customer's preference. All previous purchasers of our beef are satisfied customers.
Upon request, we also offer grass-finish beef. Grass-finishing beef is more difficult, and the taste is different from corn-fed beef.
We sell steers by the half. The price for Fall 2009 delivery is $2.50/lb hanging weight plus processing. The weight of the finished product is based upon your selections for processing. Typically, you can expect approxiamtely 350 pounds of steaks/roasts/hamburger at a total cost of approximately $1500. All beef is vacuum packed for long-term storage in a freezer.
